The Euro-Can-Cup was a preparation tournament for ice hockey teams that was held in London , Canada at the end of August 2009 . The tournament winners were the London Knights ( Ontario Hockey League ). The name of the tournament is derived from the desire to have European and Canadian ice hockey teams compete against each other in a tournament. The venue was the John Labatt Center , which holds 9,100 spectators.
Initially, it was planned to hold the tournament annually from 2009 onwards, but ultimately it was just one event.
In 2009, four teams took part with one club each from Germany , Austria , Switzerland and Canada . The tournament was held from August 26th to September 1st. First all teams played against each other. The first in the group qualified for the final. The final opponent was played out through a semi-final between the second and third.
