history
The association was founded in 1985.
In Germany and Austria (the Austrian Blaguss Group left the Eurolines group at the beginning of 2016) is Deutsche Touring GmbH , in Switzerland is Alsa + Eggmann (Autotouris-me Léman SA and Eggmann Frey AG) and in Serbia is Lasta Eurolines partner. The Transdev Group has a stake in a large number of European partner companies, including 100% in France , Belgium , the Czech Republic and the Netherlands . In Spain , the Transdev Group has a 50% stake in Eurolines Peninsular SA and 37.5% in Viajes Eurolines SA.
At the beginning of April 2017, the company Deutsche Touring filed for bankruptcy , during the course of the year it was announced that the Croatian bus company Croatia Bus will take over Deutsche Touring so that Deutsche Touring can continue to operate.
At the beginning of March 2019, the Transdev Group began negotiations with the German Flixmobility GmbH on the sale of Transdev Eurolines SA, the Isilines brand, the third largest operator of long-distance bus activities in France. At the beginning of May 2019, the Transdev Group and Flixmobility GmbH agreed to take over Transdev Eurolines SA and its subsidiaries. Transdev Eurolines SA is active in several countries - in addition to France, among others, in the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Portugal and Spain. In 2018, the companies in the Eurolines network transported around 2.5 million people.
network
Long-distance coaches are one of the most important means of transport in cross-border traffic, especially in Eastern European countries , but there are also connections between Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and the buses can also be used for domestic long-distance bus traffic. Due to the often very low fares compared to train or plane, trips to the beaches of southern Europe or metropolises such as London or Paris are also successful with a price-conscious clientele (including young people). With the Eurolines pass, travelers can reach 50 metropolises in 21 countries; the passes are valid for 15 or 30 days.
The network now covers almost all of Europe from Norway to Greece and from Portugal to Russia . Morocco and Kazakhstan are the first non-European countries to be served. Some of the routes in Germany, France and Italy are open to national traffic.
With EuroBusExpress there was a similar, but much smaller, merger. The comparable Ecolines network exists in Eastern Europe .
In contrast to the, former and existing, competitors, only the lines that touch the respective country can be booked. So it is e.g. B. not possible to book a connection from Switzerland to the Czech Republic via the German Eurolines website.
