The members are self-employed , members of the liberal professions , small and medium-sized enterprises , trade, industry and business associations as well as guilds . The ESD bundles their interests and represents them independently of political parties at state and federal level as well as the public and the media .

history

On June 23, 1962, Karl Kunrath called the " Saarland Trade Association - GVS eV " into being. Due to the inadequate lobby for the self-employed in politics , according to the local self-employed, Kunrath initially initiated a local working group for self-employed and established contacts between medium-sized companies, clubs and associations in Saarland . The idea of bundling, organizing and implementing common interests and goals under an umbrella organization developed from the collaboration between these interest groups. As a result, Karl Kunrath finally founded the "Trade Association of Saarland - GVS eV" and took over the position of chairman of the association. Kunrath maintained contacts with self-evident associations in France , Luxembourg and Belgium . In 1972 he initiated the establishment of the “European Association of the Self-Employed - CEDI” (Conféderation Européenne Des Indépendants) in Luxembourg.

As a representative of the self-employed in the Federal Republic of Germany, the European Association of Self-Employed Persons - CEDI, Federal Association of Germany - BVD eV was founded in 1973 and was chaired by Karl Kunrath from 1974 to 2000.

In 2009, the presidium of the "European Association of Self-Employed People - CEDI, Federal Association of Germany - BVD eV", under the leadership of the incumbent President Kuni Ludwig Both, decided to rename it into the European Association of Self-employed Persons - Germany eV as part of the reform and restructuring of the association. The general assembly passed the amended statutes in 2010.

Representation of political interests

The European Association of Self-Employed Persons - Germany eV represents the interests of SMEs vis-à-vis politics and governments at state and federal level.

The following examples can be used for the work of the ESD:

  • he aggressively promoted the passing of the "Act on the protection of seizure of self-employed pensions (§ 851 c ZPO)", which protects self-employed pensions in the same way from enforcement access by creditors as the pension entitlement of dependent employees
  • the implementation of the " Law to Combat Price Abuse in the Field of Energy Supply and Food Trade ", which forbids even the occasional sale of food below cost price

With the help of its umbrella organizations "Conféderation Européenne Des Indépendants - CEDI" and " Union Européenne de l'Artisanat et des Petites et Moyennes Entreprises - UEAPME ", each based in Brussels, the ESD also acts at the European level and represents the interests of its members The European Union. Especially with its French sister association, the “Conféderation Européenne Des Indépendants de France”, the ESD works closely on a bilateral level.

organization

The ESD board consists of the executive presidium consisting of the president , four vice-presidents and the treasurer and an extended presidium consisting of up to ten members with an advisory and control function. According to the statutes, these board members are elected every three years by the general assembly.

A number of working groups , advisory boards , committees and commissions, such as the "Parliamentary Advisory Board of the ES", are available to advise the board. In addition, the board of directors is supported in its political work by advisors, so-called spokespersons, appointed by it.

Historically, the ESD emerged from the Saarland Trade Association - GVS eV. For this reason, the GVS still exists today as the only regional association of the otherwise centrally organized ESD. Regionally, the members of the ESD are looked after by so-called officers and representatives.

Association body

The "GewerbeReport" is a magazine tailored to the target group of the self-employed and tradespeople in small and medium-sized companies in Germany . It appeared from 1965 to 1973 in the publishing house of the trade association of the Saarland and since 1973 quarterly in the publishing house of the European association of self-employed - Germany eV in an IVW -checked edition of 17,500 copies.
