The EU Integrated Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM Libya) is a civilian mission to support the security of Libyan land, sea and air borders. It was adopted by the European Union on May 22, 2013 as part of the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) .

The mandate, which was last extended to December 31, 2018 based on the decision of the Council of the European Union on July 17, 2017, includes in particular the support of the Libyan authorities in the area of border protection and internal security. This is done through basic and advanced training for the Libyan police, border guards and customs as well as through the development of so-called Integrated Border Management (IBM) , an integrated border protection management. The cooperation takes place on an operational and strategic level. There is no executive mandate.

Until the security situation in Libya improves , the headquarters are in Tunis , Tunisia . This is also the reason for the reduced strength of the mission, which currently comprises 23 international officials from 11 EU nations. The budget for the period August 2016 - August 2017 is around 17 million euros, and the mission has been headed by the Italian police officer Vincenzo Tagliaferri since 2016.

Besides EUBAM Libya also is peace mission of the United Nations , the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), operated at about 36 international staff. Their headquarters are also in Tunisia.
