The 4th Eurovision: You Decide took place on February 8, 2019 and was the British preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv , Israel . For the first time, a British preliminary decision took place in the north of England with Dock 10 at MediaCityUK in Salford .

By the end of January 2019, numerous musicians, artists and cultural workers had jointly called for the BBC to boycott the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Israel , including Wolf Alice , Julie Christie , Eve Ensler , Peter Gabriel , AL Kennedy , Mike Leigh , Ken Loach and Yann Martel , Maxine Peake , Alexei Sayle , Alia Shawkat , Roger Waters , Vivienne Westwood . The statement reads: “We can not ignore Israel's systematic violations of Palestinian human rights ” and “The BBC is obliged by its statutes to stand up for freedom of expression. It should act on the foundation of its principles and work to ensure that Eurovision is moved to a country where no crimes against freedom are committed. "

format

concept

The BBC announced a new format for 2019 . This will be different from the format used from 2016 to 2018. As in 2018 , the preliminary decision was again moderated by Mel Giedroyc and Måns Zelmerlöw . Again six performers took part in the program, but there were only three songs. These three songs were each worked out into two different versions. There were two voting rounds in total. In the first round there were three duels, in which the two different versions of a song competed against each other. The song with the most votes then reached the second round of voting. There all three winners of the duels then competed against each other again. The overall winner was then decided 50% by televoting and 50% by jury voting.

Choice of contribution

From September 19, 2018 to October 26, 2018, contributions could be submitted to the BBC. Unlike in previous years, in which the OGAE UK fan club selected the participants, an international jury selected the six performers and the three songs in 2019.

Attendees

The six participants and their accompanying songs were presented on January 23, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. ( UTC ). These were presented by Ken Bruce on the radio station BBC Radio 2 .
