Evžen Zámečník

Evžen Zámečník (born February 5, 1939 in Frýdek-Místek , Moravskoslezský kraj in Moravia ; † February 19, 2018 ) was a Czech composer , conductor and musician .

Life

From 1956 to 1961 he studied violin and composition at the Conservatory in Brno , Czech Republic . At the " Janáček Academy of Performing Arts" in Brno he completed his studies in composition with Jan Kapr . In 1968 he graduated with the one-act opera Die Posse vom Zuber - Farce of a Tub . By means of a scholarship he deepened his composition studies from 1968 to 1970 at the "Staatliche Hochschule für Musik" in Munich with Günter Bialas and finally with Jiří Dvořáček at the "Academy of Performing Arts" in Prague from 1974 to 1979.

He played the violin for several years in the Janáček Opera Orchestra and the Brno State Philharmonic.

In 1982 he founded the Brno Brass Band (BBB), a chamber ensemble of which he was musical director and conductor and for which he wrote numerous compositions.

Due to his extensive international experience, he was a much sought-after jury member for composition and orchestral competitions at home and abroad.

style

His style initially had a tendency towards neo-classicism, later he increasingly integrated contemporary composition techniques. However, he consistently preferred an uncomplicated, spontaneous tonal language, initially with a certain inclination towards the timbres of the string instruments, in later works he showed an increasing interest in wind instruments and percussion.
