The Evangelical Church Erzhausen is a Protestant parish church in Erzhausen in the southern Hessian district of Darmstadt-Dieburg .

The church, built in 1565 with remarkable baroque paintings inside, is the oldest preserved building in the place. It is a listed building .

Architecture and history

Instead of a previous building - the Nazario - Chapel (first mentioned in the 9th century) - was built in 1565, the small village church , using the chapel north wall, built.

The single-nave church with retracted three-sided choir has a flat wooden ceiling , wooden galleries and an organ gallery in the choir .

There are three flat blind arcades on the north side of the church . The blind arcades are closed in a round arch and simply run down to the floor.

An eight-sided roof turret with a curved hood rises above the western gable wall . The pointed arch door on the west side forms the entrance. The year 1565 is written on the top of the pointed arched door.

The south facade and the choir are structured by pointed arched windows without tracery .

The square sacristy is on the north side of the choir . The sacristy is provided with a burr cross vault .

The beautiful little organ has a baroque three-part prospectus .

The parish church is a cultural monument because of its architectural and historical importance .

There is a memorial in the former cemetery that surrounds the church . The sandstone monument on the eastern edge of the area consists of an obelisk on a base with a cover plate. The monument was unveiled on August 17, 1879.

The inscription on the monument reads: FROM THE ROCK TO THE SEA ALL GERMANY SHALL BE

For historical reasons, the memorial is a cultural monument .
