The feud between the US rappers Everlast and Eminem , also known as Beef in jargon , began in 2000 and lasted an estimated one or two years.

Events

The trigger

The paths of the two rappers first crossed before a concert in 1999. There are different statements from both sides about the beginning of the feud. Eminem claims that he did not greet Everlast because he did not recognize him, and Everlast did not address him either. Everlast, on the other hand, claims that he wanted to congratulate Eminem on his success, but Eminem turned him down.

Beef

What is certain, however, is that Eminem on the song Ear Drums Pop (Remix) by Dilated Peoples , on which Everlast is represented as a guest rapper, for the first time by the latter with the words “… Cock my hammer, spit a comet like Haley / I buck a .380 on ones that act shady ... " , which translates as " I cock the tap, I spit a comet like Haley / I fire a .38 on people who behave suspiciously ... "is dissed. Whereby Haley is also the name of Eminem's daughter, and shady alludes to one of his stage names Slim Shady .

Eminem responded with the Disstrack I Remember (Dedication to Whitey Ford) . The song is on the B-side of the vinyl version of the single Shit on You by his group D12 . On the song he disses Everlast for his blues music , which he made after his time with House of Pain . He revealed that when Everlast was still under contract with Ice-T's label Rhyme Syndicate, he liked him and his music, but that Everlast then changed his "style" and sounded "ridiculous". In the end, he advised Everlast not to use a .380 ACP "sissy gun" when trying to shoot him, but rather a "real gun".

Everlast dissed Eminem back with Whitey's Revenge , which was only available for free download on its official website. In it he asks Eminem to put the microphones aside and "fight". With his blonde hair he also looks like Marilyn Monroe . He made many enemies, but they were only for promotional purposes. Eminem's crew (who he is probably referring to as D12) greeted him warmly and told him they liked What It's Like and Praise the Lord (both of which are on Everlast's second studio album, Whitey Ford Sings the Blues ). He couldn't even take care of his wife and should take his daughter for a paternity test . The song ends with Everlast's repeated statement that Eminem should next time come and "talk with his hands" .

Together with D12, Eminem responded with the track Quitter , on which they make fun of Everlast's congenital heart defects , among other things . The song can be assigned to the battle rap . Eminem also accuses Everlast of not being able to rhyme. While Everlast sold 49,000 units in the first week, Eminem sold 2 million.

There was no answer to Quitter from Everlast, instead he stated in interviews that in his opinion everything had been said and that he would no longer respond to possible further taunts or disstracks from Eminem or D12. Because Eminem indirectly dissects the group Dilated Peoples in Quitter, the group responded with Track Search 4 Bobby Fisher .

In an interview with TRL , DJ Lethal said that Everlast would emerge victorious from a fight with Eminem. Eminem didn't let this sit on him and published again a disstrack called Girls , which is mainly directed against DJ Lethal and Limp Bizkit . On the song reveals Eminem, Limp Bizkit that was originally on the song Quitter gefeaturet should be, but frontman Fred Durst canceled the project at the last moment.

The end

The beef then subsided, there was no more diss from both sides. In an interview with laut.de , which was published on May 14, 2004, Everlast declared the beef to be over. Eminem also announced the end of the beef in an interview with Vibe , albeit much later in 2010, saying that since then there has been a mutual respect between him and Everlast. This is also clear in the song Baby , which can be heard on Eminem's eighth studio album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 , on which he raps the lines "... a mixture of Whitey Ford and Mighty Thor, I Everlast, pen is mightier than sword ..." which roughly translates as "... a mixture of Whitey Ford and Mighty Thor, I, Everlast, pen is mightier than a sword ..." means. Everlast is also featured as a guest rapper on Busta Rhymes ' single Calm Down , which features Eminem, but both can be heard on different versions of the song.
