Evosonic is a German radio broadcaster specializing in electronic dance music that could be received via cable and satellite in the late 1990s . The station has been available again as internet radio since 2017.

history

Evosonic was operated by a team led by DJ Mike S. (Chris-Maico Schmidt) from Stuttgart and the main shareholder Frank Heitmeyer. The first broadcast took place on May 1, 1997 from Cologne .

Due to payment difficulties, Evosonic lost its audio subcarrier frequency on Super RTL and could therefore no longer be received via cable from June 1, 1998, as broadcasting via satellite was necessary for the cable feed. A new audio subcarrier frequency could be found relatively quickly at the station Phoenix , which belongs to ARD and ZDF . However, since the WDR runs the Phoenix station for ARD and ZDF, the WDR said it had a say in the use of the audio subcarriers - after the WDR's objection, Evosonic was refused to use the audio subcarrier frequency. Evosonic fans accused the WDR of seeing powerful competition growing up in the station and wanting to deprive it of the possibility of distribution.

The frequency used later was a stopgap solution that did not last long: The second broadcasting started on November 1, 1998 after moving to Munich, where a frequency from DSF was made available to the station . The broadcast was from an old barracks building on the Domagk site in Munich- Schwabing-Freimann . Negotiations with Telekom for a place in the cable network were unsuccessful. On October 1, 1999 at 3 p.m., broadcasting was finally stopped.

Evosonic did not orientate itself on the concepts of the format radio , but left the design in part to its music editors and DJs, who for the most part waived a fee. The programs covered several styles in the field of electronic music. Words were not the focus. Evosonic should also be financed through monthly contributions from the members of the Evosonic- Förderverein Neukult eV In order to put the station on a sustainable financial basis, more advertising time would have had to be sold, but this was not possible because Evosonic had to carry out the range analysis required for sales was not to be paid.

In the end, according to a report in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Heitmeyer invested a seven-digit DM amount in the station.

As managing director and head of programming at Evosonic Radio, Mike S. (Chris-Maico Schmidt) received the German Dance Award in the “Best Medium” category in January 2000 .

When Evosonic Ltd. was founded in April 2004, the station tried to go on air again using the Digital Radio Mondiale transmission and transmission technology , but stopped doing so a few months later. According to Frank Heitmeyer in September 2005, no further attempts are planned to bring Evosonic back on air.

Since January 2010 u. a. Chris Maico Schmidt aka Mike S. owns the naming rights of Evosonic Radio and is the domain owner of evosonic.de. Frank Heitmeyer handed it over to him in mid-2009. The website has been online again since February 2010. In November 2010, the Evosonic trademark was transferred to D&S Edelmarken Vertriebs GmbH in Hamburg.

On May 1, 2012, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Evosonic, a twelve-hour video live stream with Markus König, Mike S., Andy Baar, Janja, Ponchmann and Thorsten Mesrine was broadcast on the Internet. The first official Evo archive starts on May 1st, 2013.

The first Evosonic podcast will be published at the end of 2015.

On April 30, 2016 Evosonic will celebrate its 19th birthday with a nineteen-hour worldwide live broadcast, shortly afterwards Evosonic will start its own radio show on sceen.fm.

Evosonic Records was founded on July 5th, 2016 and released the LP Two Point Zero by Chris Maico Schmidt as Evo001.

On May 1st, 2017, for the 20th anniversary, the Evosonic Live Stream started. The program was designed to a large extent from automated rotation, irregularly interrupted by live broadcasts by Evosonic DJs, with the aim of broadcasting live programs moderated for 24 hours again.

On June 7, 2017, "Evosonic Radio Vision GmbH & Co. KG", based in Berlin, was founded. On March 1, 2019, Evosonic Radio applied as an event radio for the allocation of an FM frequency for event broadcasting in Berlin to the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg. Approval has been granted. Evosonic Radio was thus able to broadcast from August 26, 2019 to September 22, 2019 in Berlin on the FM frequency 106.4 MHz. The broadcasting station in Berlin-Treptowers was transmitting at 200 watts.

A radio app for Android and iOS has been available since February 2020, with which Evosonic can be heard on web radio and further program information is available.
