action

Drew Utley has to defend himself against verbal and physical attacks in school. The same goes for his friends Miles Kitchen and Lanny Nygren. So they decide to found an association that offers them more support. Jonny Pasiotopolis and his cousin Samantha Swoboda join as further members. As a name they choose the acronym PUNKS, which is composed of the first letters of their surnames and includes their motto: "To protect the underdog with nerves, knowledge and strength".

Drew's father, Pat, works as a scientist at CRAP Crow Research, where he is involved in the development of new machines. When Drew and Miles visit him there, they hack into the local computer system for fun. Drew happened to witness a conversation between his father and company owner Edward Crow, who asked Utley to test a suit developed by Drew's father, which not only strengthens the immune system but also gives supernatural powers, the Augmentor 1000, to be connected. Should he not agree to do so, he would be removed from the project. Drew hears his father, who has a problematic heart condition, agree and concludes that this is the way Crow wants to get rid of his father. In order to find out more about the Augmentor 1000, Miles, who tries to do so, would have to get Crow's superuser password.

With the help of Jonny, the three youngsters actually manage to crack the password and download the Augmentor circuit diagrams. They discover that the suit has been manipulated in such a way that if you wear it for more than twenty minutes, it can destroy the nervous system, and if you suffer from a heart disease, this happens within five minutes. For Drew's father with his sick heart, he can therefore be life-threatening. So the PUNKS decide to steal the Augmentor 1000. Easier said than done, however. With the help of Samantha they manage to get into the building, contrary to expectations. Miles copies and deletes the Augmentor files, while Drew and Samantha fix an audio bug and take further steps to obfuscate it. When a silent alarm alerts the guards, Miles infects the system with a virus. The friends can just escape before the guards approach.

The next day, however, they learn that Crow has file backups and a prototype Augmentor. Your attempt to get the prototype fails. Crow has meanwhile initiated a secret meeting with an important investor from the Middle East, to whom he wants to show the prototype, although he doesn't care that the suit is supposed to be abused. However, thanks to Jonny's intervention, the demonstration goes completely wrong with a second motion control device, for which Crow blames Pat Utley and threatens him with dismissal. After the PUNKS have mastered more situations controlled by Crow, Drew learns that Crow managed to kidnap his friends after all. However, Drew can track down where they are. However, he has to face a fight with Crow who put the Augmentor 1000 on. But even now the cohesive PUNKS Drow managed to outsmart them. In the end, Crow and his henchmen are arrested by the approaching police.

A special kind of achievement awaits the five at school, where they make their grand entrance with the Augmentor 1000. On the way home, they learn from the newspaper that Crow and his vassals have been exposed thanks to an undercover team of activists, the PUNKS, and will soon be on trial.

criticism

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was " turbulent youth entertainment " and tried to "convey the message of the need for solidarity and friendship in addition to the brisk story".

Common Sense stated succinctly that kids would be more likely to laugh at the lame story of comic-style violence.

Flights, Tights & Movie Nights said it was needless to say that this was a pretty bad movie, even if it featured Randy Quaid, Henry Winkler and a young Jessica Alba. Nothing remarkable can be said about the film itself, it is neither particularly humorous, nor is the plot really exciting. All in all, the film is lame all around.

Also Cinema took this view and summed up in just one word: ". Lahm"
