The FC Schoenberg 95 is a football club with about 250 members from Mecklenburg Schoenberg .
history
The club was founded on July 1, 1995, when the football division was separated from TSG Schönberg . FC Schönberg first became known nationwide in 1998 when the club was promoted to the Oberliga Nordost. In this class, the club was able to hold up to relegation to the association league in 2005, in which after only one year the promotion could be celebrated.
Between 1999 and 2003, FC Schönberg was one of the top teams in the league and was on the verge of promotion to the regional league several times . When the number of regional leagues was reduced from four to two in 2000, the club played in two relegation games against FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt for the last starting place in the two-track regional league.
After the championship in the NOFV-Oberliga Nord, FC Schönberg again reached the relegation games to the Regionalliga in 2003. Against the champions of the southern season FC Sachsen Leipzig, however, the club lost 1-0 and 2-0 and missed promotion again. After the 2006/07 season, in which the team occupied 7th place in the Oberliga, the club withdrew from this division for financial reasons and now joined the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Association . There they became runner-up in the 2007/08 season and champions in the 2008/09 season. However, the club waived a possible return to the - now fifth class - Oberliga Nordost (North). In 2013 the Schönbergers rose to the Oberliga Nordost after a waiver by the master Sievershäger SV . In 2015 he was promoted to the regional league for the first time. The club played there for two years. In April 2017 it was decided not to apply for a license for the regional league for the following season 2017/18 after the main sponsor is said to have cut its financial contributions significantly; In addition, the trips to away games represented a significant financial burden due to the exposed location of the club in the Regionalliga Nordost . A change to the Regionalliga Nord was rejected by the Northeast German Football Association . The club is planning a new start in the association or regional league. In addition, they want to concentrate more on promoting young people.
As the seven-time state cup winner of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, FC Schönberg played in the DFB Cup several times. Here the club was able to play against teams like SV Waldhof Mannheim ( 1999 , 0: 3), FC Bayern Munich ( 2000 , 0: 4), VfB Stuttgart ( 2001 , 2: 4), Hamburger SV ( 2002 , 0: 6), Borussia Mönchengladbach ( 2003 , 0: 3), 1. FC Kaiserslautern ( 2005 , 0:15) or VfL Wolfsburg (2012, 0: 5) never reach the next round. Due to the regular participation and the resulting accumulated highly negative goal difference, FC Schönberg is in last place in the all-time DFB Cup table .
