NA1

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NA1 (also Framm ) was an experiment on Super Proton Synchrotron of CERN , which was conducted from 1975 to 1992. The aim of the experiment was to investigate the photon- induced generation of scalar and vector bosons , as well as hadrons containing charm quarks . Furthermore, the spectroscopy of new massive particles in hadronic decay channels was in focus. The spokesman for the collaboration was Lorenzo Foa . Another prominent member of the collaboration was the later spokesman for the CMS experiment Guido Tonelli .

construction

The experiment consisted of a sample of silicon and later germanium several centimeters thick onto which a beam of photons was directed. The photon beam resulted from bremsstrahlung of electrons , from which low-energy photons (<40 G eV ) were filtered out. This was followed by a spectrometer that covered a solid angle of 40 msr and was embedded in four strong magnets. Drift chambers and photon detectors were located between the magnets . In the area of the first two magnets there were also Cherenkov counters .
