Subject-specific foreign language training

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The subject-specific foreign language training (FFA for short) is an additional training course at universities , through which knowledge of a foreign language is imparted for a specific field of study. In Germany, an FFA is often offered in connection with the subject of law .

overview

For some years now, some German faculties have been offering specific training courses for their subject in various foreign languages. Most universities focus on programs in English , French and Spanish . More and more universities are also offering subject-specific additional training in Italian , Turkish or Russian .

Most of the training courses are offered by law faculties. There are also a few FFA programs in the fields of economics / social sciences , (business) mathematics , (business) computer science or sociology .

The aim of a FFA is basically to give students a technical overview of their study discipline in a foreign technical language. In view of globalization and growing international relationships of all kinds, more and more international competence is required on a linguistic and technical level. As a rule, the FFA study model does not replace a study abroad , but at least prepares students for one and provides basic knowledge with which students are prepared for a job market that is increasingly characterized by international connections.

Eligibility requirements and curricula vary depending on the university. As a rule, however, demonstrable knowledge of the respective foreign language is required.

FFA for lawyers

General

More and more law faculties are offering their students subject-specific foreign language training (FFA). The main thing is to get an insight into foreign legal systems. The training also covers the compulsory foreign language certificate, which is a prerequisite for admission to the first legal examination throughout Germany . FFA graduates not only receive an additional degree, but also meet a requirement for the first legal examination. As a rule, you do not have to take another foreign language course.

As part of the FFA, students usually acquire a certificate that proves their knowledge of foreign legal languages in the respective foreign language. A graduate of the FFA in English therefore has a certified knowledge of the Anglo-American legal system and a specialist vocabulary.
