The thread stem lady's mantle ( Alchemilla filicaulis ) is a species of plant within the rose family (Rosaceae).

Similarities with related species and likelihood of confusion

Alchemilla filicaulis belongs to the Alchemilla vulgaris group, which is characterized by protruding, differently distributed hairs. Individual petioles or the stem are never completely bare. The sepals and the outer sepals are unequal and shorter than the sepals.

Alchemilla filicaulis differs from the mountain meadow lady's mantle ( Alchemilla monticola ) in that it is generally less hairy and the more kidney-shaped leaves with flatter lobes.

description

The thread stem lady's mantle grows as a small to medium-sized, perennial herbaceous plant that rarely reaches heights of more than 30 centimeters. The stem is often only loosely haired in the lower half, rarely also along its entire length.

The leaves are divided into a petiole and a leaf blade. The leaf blades of the basal leaves are usually kidney-shaped with a width of 3 to 8 centimeters and have a moderately narrow to wide basal bay and are 1/4 to 2/5 divided into usually seven leaf lobes; less often there are only five or up to nine lobes. On early leaves, these leaf lobes are flat arched with incisions, later semicircular to parabolic without incisions and finally broadly hyperbolic and partially truncated. They have five to nine pointed, rather wart-shaped teeth per half. The upper side of the leaf is loosely to moderately dense, also densely hairy in the folds. On the underside of the leaf between the veins they are often almost bare, and very loosely hairy on the veins. The base of the leaves and the stipules are often reddened.

The flowering period is mainly from May to September. The total inflorescence is relatively narrow and not very branched, but the shingled to spherical partial inflorescences are often quite profuse. The approximately 1.7 millimeter long flower cup has a short bell-conical shape and often more or less protruding hairs. The sepals are slightly shorter than the flower cups and ovoid-pointed.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 103-110.

Systematics

Alchemilla filicaulis was first published by Robert Buser .

Alchemilla filicaulis is very variable in terms of hairiness and is also divided into two subspecies or varieties. Some authors only view these subspecies as varieties:

  • Alchemilla filicaulis Buser subsp. filicaulis , with overall weak hair, as well
  • Alchemilla filicaulis subsp. vestita (Buser) Bradsh. (Syn .: Alchemilla vestita Buser ), with overall thick hair

Occurrence

Alchemilla filicaulis is common in temperate to subarctic Europe and eastern North America . Its range extends from Iceland, Greenland and Northern Russia in the north to the Alps and the Pyrenees in the south. To the east the thread stem lady's mantle penetrates to Moravia . It is rarely found in the Central European lowlands .

In Germany the thread stem lady's mantle is found very scattered or rarely in the central and southern area. Lady's mantle seldom occurs in Austria, while nothing is known about its distribution in Switzerland.

The thread stalk lady's mantle is light-loving and grows in somewhat poor meadows and on the edges of forests and paths. It thrives best on moderately dry to moist, calcareous soils .
