Stranger Beings is a US-British feature film by Charles Sturridge , which is based on a true story (see Cottingley Fairies ) and was premiered on September 11, 1997 at the Toronto International Film Festival. Albert Ash and Tom McLoughlin wrote the fabulous story of the two girls Elsie and Frances, which Ernie Contreras adapted into a script.
action
The two cousins Elsie and Frances firmly believe in elves and they manage to photograph some of the mythical creatures by the river. Apart from Elsie's father there is hardly anyone who denies the existence of these mythical creatures. Even celebrities like Harry Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle cannot escape the fascination and visit the girls in their English village to get a personal impression.
Trivia
Almost at the same time, the film Elfengarten was released, which deals with the same topic with a modified frame story.
criticism
“A true story based children's film that takes its little audience seriously and is a godsend for the genre. By depicting the children's world as an alternative to that of adults, in which belief and imagination rule, a fascinating, idiosyncratic sphere emerges, which however never completely excludes reality. Beautiful, elaborate pictures, subtle tricks and an excellent cast round off the magnificent film. "
Awards
In 1998 the film won the BAFTA Award for Best Children's Film. In the same year he was also nominated for the Chlotrudis Award and the Young Artist Award .
