action

Forty-nine year old Bernd Fröhlich has been unemployed for a year. Mr. Lämmle from the job center cannot really help him, but lets him constantly feel how dependent he is on him as a civil servant. All application attempts fail, so he concentrates more and more on caring for his family and household. His wife Petra therefore has to pay for the family's financial support, which she can do quite well with the help of an evening sales event. The older daughter Mia is reluctant to introduce her boyfriend to her parents for a long time, because she is embarrassed that they have necessarily switched roles and she is also hiding this from her Jakob. He doesn't think it's okay at all for men to let their wives do everything alone. Mia's parents do not like his relaxed approach to life, which does not yet reveal any professional orientation.

A reporter from "Abendmagazin" wants to make a report about househusband and in a survey ends up with Bernd Fröhlich, of all people, who agrees because of the expected fee. But the show in which he hoped to be able to familiarize himself with his job search is just plain embarrassing. When he had to attend an application seminar ordered by Lämmle, he was smiled at for his television appearance. Without further ado, he breaks off the seminar and is next assigned a " one-euro job ".

The domestic situation comes to a head when the Fröhlichs learn that their daughter Mia is pregnant. Since the future grandparents now also want to get to know Jacob's parental home, they meet at their place one evening. Surprised and surprised, Bernd Fröhlich realizes that Lämmle is Jacob's father and Petra Fröhlich is also amazed because she had already met Gabriele Lämmle as one of her most willing customers. Bernd Fröhlich can't help but give the officer some of his previous catchphrases so that he can finally help his own son on the jumps. Although Lämmle is the last person with whom Fröhlich would like to be related, he does receive some tips from him on how he can cope better with his unemployment in the future.

So it gets more and more turbulent with the Fröhlichs. Mia realizes that Jacob might not be the right one for her and Bernd also has reason to believe that his Petra could be unfaithful to him when he suspects that his wife has gone on a business trip with her boss. Lämmle admits that he has been frustrated with his work for a long time because he cannot find a job if there are no jobs at all. With this, Bernd realizes that he has actually already found the right job for himself. He is a comforter, manager, cook, chauffeur and simply always there for others. In order to free Mia from her lovesickness, he gets in touch with Jakob, who had panic when Mia came with marriage plans. The project succeeds and the young lovers are reconciled.

When the baby was born, everyone got along wonderfully and Bernd even managed to get a permanent job as a cook and caretaker in a kindergarten thanks to his last “one-euro job”.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv rated this comedy: “The nicely written and staged family film about unemployment, role reversal and job center frustration unfortunately doesn't quite get the curve, but he manages the feat of not being boring despite the not very sophisticated accumulation dramaturgy. This is due to the extremely playful ensemble, from which Tarrach and Brambach stand out. "

The critics atquotemeter.de say: “One could have approached Bernd Fröhlich's role as a jealous husband with a little less seriousness. This would have been a subject that would have been more appropriate to the comedy than to press on the lacrimal gland. All in all, the serious themes in the film 'Familie Fröhlich' weren't treated with enough humor to make it a family comedy. The fact that there are still a few laughs at the end is due to the fact that the family situation develops towards a happy ending and thus loosens up. "
