biography

Chmelar first started in December 2000 in FIS races and national junior races . The first appearances in the European Cup followed two years later. After showing a strong upward trend there after a while, she was allowed to contest her first World Cup race at the end of December 2005 . In her third race, the Super Combined in St. Moritz on January 22, 2006, she scored her first World Cup points with 20th place.

A series of good placements followed: two weeks later, Chmelar finished 16th in the slalom in Ofterschwang with the high starting number 51. On December 15, 2006, she reached sixth place in the super combination on the Reiteralm . In 2007 she took part in a world championship for the first time and was 21st in the super combined. At the beginning of the 2007/2008 season , Chmelar started in the World Cup for the last time in the fast downhill and super-G disciplines, and since then she has mainly concentrated on the slalom.

In the 2008/09 season Chmelar achieved consistently good World Cup results. In her eleven starts before the World Championships , she did not finish six times or was disqualified, but in five slaloms a 13th place was the best and 24th place the worst result. She was nominated for the title fights in Val-d'Isère because of this performance . In preparation for the world championship, she achieved two slalom victories in a row in Oberjoch , first in an FIS race and one day later in the German junior championships. When Maria Riesch won on the La face de Bellevarde circuit , she made it into the top 10 with eighth place. At the World Cup final in Åre on March 13, 2009 she achieved the only podium in her career.

With further top 10 placements in the 2009/10 season , Chmelar was able to qualify for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and prevail in an internal elimination in Canada together with Christina Geiger for the Olympic slalom on February 27, 2010 against Katharina Dürr . In their only Olympic participation, however, Chmelar was eliminated in the second round after she was 13th in run one. At the Winter Military World Games in March 2010, she won gold in slalom and bronze in giant slalom.

In the 2010/11 season , Chmelar was among the fastest 15 in four World Cup slaloms, while she won the slalom classification in the European Cup with a victory in Melchsee-Frutt and another three podium places. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , she finished 15th in slalom. in the 2011/12 World Cup winter , a 13th place was her best result, in the 2012/13 season a 15th place. On March 9, 2013, Chmelar announced her retirement from alpine ski racing on her website, and one day later she competed in the last World Cup race in Ofterschwang, in an original way in a tutu .

In 2014 she started her cooking apprenticeship at the Hotel Zugspitze in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , which she completed in May 2016. She has also been a member of the DSV's federal alpine teaching team since 2014, where she trains other ski instructors. As a state-certified ski instructor, she now offers individual coaching in addition to her voluntary work in the DSV federal teaching team.
