Felix Creutzig

Felix Creutzig (* 1979 in Hanover ) is a German physicist and university professor. Since 2017 he has been Professor for Sustainability Economics of Human Settlements at the Technical University of Berlin .

academic career

After graduating from high school in Hanover, Creutzig studied physics and medicine at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg . After completing his intermediate diploma and physics there, he worked in the laboratory at Harvard Medical School in 2002 before earning a master's degree from the University of Cambridge in 2003 . He then worked on a project at the Studienkolleg in Berlin and in 2005 moved to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . Parallel doctorate he 2003-2007 at the Humboldt University of Berlin with a thesis on "Sufficient encoding of dynamical systems" to Dr. rer. nat. in biophysics .

As a postdoc he went to the Berkeley Institute of the Environment at the University of California, Berkeley and then worked from 2009 to 2012 at the TU Berlin as a group leader on a project on the economics of climate change . After further research stays at other institutions, he became group leader of a working group on land use, infrastructure and transport at the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change in 2012 . In 2017 he received a newly created chair as Professor for Sustainability Economics of Human Settlements at the TU Berlin .

Creutzig is a member of the German Physical Society and was involved as an author on reports of the IPCC . Among other things, he was co-author of several chapters in the Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation and in the Fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC ; in the latter he was also one of the lead authors of the “Transport” chapter (Working Group III). He was also involved in several other reports from other organizations such as B. the UCCRN and 2016 involved for the US government.

In the sixth assessment report of the IPCC , Creutzig will act as one of the two coordinating lead authors of the chapter on "Demand, services and social aspects of climate protection".

Creutzig is a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) in Potsdam.
