Felix Jackson

Felix Jackson (born Felix Joachimson June 5, 1902 in Hamburg ; died December 4, 1992 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles ;) was a German-American author, screenwriter and film producer.

Life

The son of the businessman Siegfried Joachimson and his wife Fanny attended school in Wyk auf Föhr , then for three years a boarding school in Klosters . After graduating from Mommsen-Gymnasium , Joachimson began studying law and economics in Freiburg.

In 1923 he went to Berlin and became a critic for the Börsen-Courier . Victor Barnowsky brought him to his stage as an assistant. In 1927 his first play Five was premiered by the jazz band under the direction of Erich Engel at the Staatliches Schauspielhaus . He wrote comedies, musical librettos and edited plays. In 1930 How do I get rich and happy? filmed one of his comedies for the first time under the direction of Max Reichmann .

From 1932 Joachimson wrote film scripts. He wrote the screenplays for a number of entertainment films, including The Merry Heirs , Csibi, the brat , Small mom and together with Bruce Manning consultation for Love ( Appointment for Love ).

After the handover of power to the National Socialists in the Reich, anti-Semitic riots broke out at the premiere of The Ugly Girl on September 8, 1933. Joachim's name and that of director Hermann Kosterlitz were already kept secret in the opening credits. In October 1933 he emigrated to Budapest and Vienna. Joe Pasternak hired him there as a film writer. Since then Joachimson has mainly worked for Austro-Hungarian co-productions.

In February 1937 he emigrated to the USA. As Felix Jackson, he remained loyal to the entertainment film genre, primarily as a writer for Columbia . Jackson worked from 1943 as a film and later television producer.

In 1956 he published the autobiographical novel So Help Me God: A Novel about his experiences in fascist Germany. It was published in German by Alamo Verlag in 1993 under the title Berlin, April 1933 . From 1965 he worked as a freelance writer and wrote several novels and plays.

He was temporarily married to the film actress Deanna Durbin .
