Joan Josep Laguarda i Fenollera ( Spanish Juan José Laguarda y Fenollera ; born April 22, 1866 in Valencia , Spain , † December 4, 1913 in Barcelona ) was co-prince of Andorra and bishop of Urgell , Jaén and Barcelona .

Life

He studied at the Colegio del Patriarca in Valencia and received a doctorate in theology and canon law and a licentiate in secular law. After a few months in the parish, he was appointed Prefect of the Seminario Conciliar in Valencia by Archbishop Ciriaco Sancha y Hervás , where he taught metaphysics, political economy and law in the following years.

After the appointment of Sanco y Hervás as Archbishop of Toledo , Laguarda became auxiliary bishop in Toledo and titular bishop of Titiopolis in 1899 , as well as vicar general of the archbishopric. In 1902 he became Bishop of Urgell and Co-Prince of Andorra . For his diplomatic skill in the negotiations about the controversial demarcation between Andorra and France, he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Charles III by the Spanish king . awarded. In 1906 he was appointed Bishop of Jaén , and in 1909 Laguarda became Bishop of Barcelona .
