Ferdinand Fellner (painter)
Ferdinand Fellner (born May 12, 1799 in Frankfurt am Main , † September 4, 1859 in Stuttgart ) was a German draftsman and painter .
Life
Fellner attended grammar school in Frankfurt from 1806 to 1817. He then studied law in Heidelberg (1817-1820) and Göttingen (1820-1824) and in 1825 settled in his hometown as a lawyer . He never did this job. Following his inclination to artistic activity, he went to Munich from 1825 to 1831, where the academy teacher Peter von Cornelius had a strong influence on him. Fellner advocated thorough costume and architecture studies for the purpose of history painting and thereby exerted significant influence, as artists like Moritz von Schwind consulted him on costume issues. In 1831 he moved to Stuttgart, where he died in 1859.

Fellner worked primarily as an illustrator (e.g. twelve drawings on the history of the seven Swabians ), but also painted in oil. He painted Konrad III for the Imperial Hall of the Frankfurt Roman . and Frederick the Beautiful , an altarpiece for the church in Burgberg.
Ferdinand Fellner's artistic estate is in the Städel in Frankfurt .
