Fernando José Monteiro Guimarães CSsR (born July 19, 1946 in Recife ) is a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic military archbishop of Brazil .

Life

Fernando José Monteiro Guimarães joined the Congregation of the Redemptorists in, put the profession on 25 January 1965, received on 15 August 1971, the priestly ordination .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Garanhuns on March 12, 2008 . He was ordained bishop by the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy , Cláudio Hummes, OFM , on March 31 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Crescenzio Cardinal Sepe , Archbishop of Naples , and Mauro Piacenza , Secretary of the Congregation for the Clergy. As a motto he chose Cor nostrum ardens .

The Pope appointed him a member of the Apostolic Signature on January 25, 2010 .

On August 6, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him military archbishop of Brazil.
