Fernando Romo Gutiérrez

Fernando Romo Gutiérrez (born June 18, 1915 in Guadalajara , Mexico , † December 15, 2007 ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Torreón from 1958 to 1990 .

Life

Fernando Romo Gutierrez received on 23 March 1940, the sacrament of the priesthood in Rome . After studying at the Pontifical Latin American College "Pius" in Rome, he was from 1947 to the seminary active in Guadalajara, from 1952 rain seminary in Saltillo.

Pope Pius XII appointed him on January 13, 1958 as the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Torreón in the state of Coahuila and about 1000 km north of Mexico City . He was ordained episcopal by the Apostolic Delegate in Mexico, Archbishop Luigi Raimondi , on April 20 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Durango , José María González y Valencia , and the Bishop of Saltillo , Luis Guízar y Barragán .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation on June 27, 1990.
