Ferris Webster

Ferris Webster (* 29. April 1912 in Walla Walla , Washington , † 4. February 1989 in Nipomo , California ) was an American film editor who with Blackboard Jungle , fear ambassador and Escape each for the Oscar nominee .

Life

Ferris Webster grew up in Washington state and attended the University of Southern California , where he was an excellent athlete and runner. In 1933, Webster was one of the best American middle-distance runners on the 880-yard course. He then completed the editing program of MGM Studios and was in 1939 with the short film Poetry of Nature its first autonomous Editor perform before 1943 with the musical comedy Swing Fever and the drama Harrigan's Kid debuted in feature film. With the editing of the crime drama The Wolves of Los Angeles , Webster's contract with MGM ended in 1960. Then it was mainly the “Paranoia Trilogy” with the three films Ambassador of Fear , Seven Days in May and The Man Who Lived Twice by the director John Frankenheimer , for which Webster received more attention. For the former, he received his second Oscar nomination for Best Editing , after being nominated for The Seed of Violence and the following year for Broken Chains .

At the end of his career he edited, among others, Encounter in the Morning , On behalf of the dragon and Bronco Billy , mainly films directed by Clint Eastwood . After what appeared to be a falling out, the two cuts of Firefox and Honkytonk Man were the last two films with Eastwood and Webster, and Webster's career came to an end. Eastwood himself is looking for a new editor with Joel Cox , with whom he has worked together for decades.
