life and work

Finn Ross studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London and quickly took over responsibility for projection and video in theater and opera productions. He sees himself as a specialist in live performances and integrates live recordings, recordings and animations, as well as "anything else you can imagine" [everything you can imagine] into a new theater visual language. In this respect, Ross is one of the pioneers of video design on stage. He consciously works in all possible genres, be it spoken theater , musical or opera, from fringe to pop to Broadway. Ross not only supplies his clients with content , but also the technical devices and equipment to ensure that the video projections run smoothly.

Ross quickly established solid working relationships with directors John Fulljames , Rufus Norris , Simon McBurney and Katie Mitchell and has been invited to major stages, the Grand Theater Leeds , the English National Opera , De Nederlandse Opera and the Metropolitan Opera . Ross also works regularly in Austria: in 2010 he made his debut at the Bregenz Festival and in 2011 at the Theater an der Wien . In 2012, the legendary master-and-margarita dramatization by Simon McBurney of the London Barbican Center , on which Ross had worked, could be seen at the Wiener Festwochen . In 2014 he made his debuts at the Burgtheater in Vienna and at the Salzburg Festival . Surprisingly, the artist received the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award twice , although that award does not yet have a category for video design . In 2013 he was honored together with the set designer Bunny Christie for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time at the Royal National Theater in London, in 2014 together with the lighting designer Tim Lutkin for Lucy Kirkwood's new piece Chimerica . Lyndsay Turner's production won a total of five Olivier Awards. A semi-staged performance of Beethoven's Missa solemnis with the San Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas is in preparation for June 2015 .
