Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted (German about five nights at Freddy's VR: Hilfe Gesucht ) is a Five Nights at Freddy’s game that uses virtual reality . It is the first game in the series that was not developed directly by Scott Cawthon . The game was released on May 28, 2019.

Help Wanted is a mini-game collection that lets players experience five nights of the first three parts of the FNaF series, as well as selected situations from the remaining parts, in virtual reality. In addition, there are completely new scenarios, for example levels in which animatronics have to be repaired. The main character the player takes on is a beta tester for the video game company that develops The Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience , a game commissioned by Fazbear Entertainment . During testing, unforeseen elements may be found in the game by the developers, revealing information about the development of the game. Whether the events of Help Wanted are part of the larger plot of Five Nights at Freddy’s is controversial.

An FNaF game that uses virtual reality has been in planning for a long time. The release of Help Wanted was originally scheduled for April 30, 2019, but has been postponed several times.

On October 23, a DLC called Curse of Dreabear (German: Curse of Dreadbear ) was released.

Gameplay

The player controls the character through motion sensors. He can move freely in the virtual space. Initially, he is in a pizzeria in front of a large screen from which he can select mini-games. Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted offers 41 mini-games which are divided into seven categories. These categories are FNaF 1 , FNaF 2 , FNaF 3 , darkrooms (dt .: Dark rooms), Parts and Service , Vent Repair (dt .: duct repair) and Night Terrors (dt .: night terrors ).

Various mini-games equip the player with different skills to complete the respective task. Mini-games in the same category follow a certain theme. FNaF 1 , FNaF 2 and FNaF 3 are VR remakes of the first three FNaF games with almost identical gameplay. Each mini-game in these categories is a night of the original game. In September 2019 an update with a new night for FNaF 2 was added. In this, the toy animatronics are replaced by the original animatronics that were present in the original version of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 , but not in the VR version.

In Dark Rooms the player is always with one or more animatronics in a dark room that can be lit in some way. The goal is to survive. Parts and Service are segments in which Bonnie , Chica , Freddy or Foxy have to be repaired by the player. In Vent Repair , the player has to perform maintenance work in air shafts while being followed by an animatronic. Finally, the mini-games of Night Terrors take place, except for the fifth and last, in the bedroom from Five Nights at Freddy's 4 , where an animatronic has to be fought off repeatedly.

If a mini-game is successfully completed, the player receives a random prize from a very long list or, rarely, a jumpscare . Failure in a mini-game also results in a jump care. Received prizes can be called up at any time afterwards in the prize counter, which is located opposite the screen in the overworld. The prices range from food and plush toys to action figures . In addition, 20 coins and 16 cassettes are hidden above the mini-games and the overworld , which unlock special prizes in the case of the coins and reveal details of the plot in the case of the cassettes.

There are only four mini-games per category, but there is a lever next to the screen that activates a second mode, which alternates between hard mode, nightmare mode, or blacklight mode (dt .: Black light mode). In this mode, each of the categories has a new set of mini-games. In the categories based on old FNaF parts, this is the fifth night of the respective game. In the other categories, except Night Terrors , each mini-game has a more difficult version. The mode is characterized by the fact that it gives the old mini-games a new atmosphere, which makes orientation difficult and sometimes also gives minor changes to the gameplay. For example, the fifth night of FNaF has 2 of disco lighting and the player is extremely small in the first mini-game from Dark Rooms . The only mini-game of Night Terrors in this mode is, contrary to the usual gameplay of its category, a maze of different rooms, at the end of which there is the end credits with the game's credits . This mini-game cannot be played until all others have been completed in both modes.

Curse of Dreadbear

The DLC Curse of Dreadbear , which was released on October 23rd, adds a new range of levels to the game. Its content was published in several batches on different days.

The DLC gives the player the opportunity to be transported into a new, Halloween- inspired environment, in which three new level categories, Afraid of the Dark , and Spooky Mansion (German: ghostly property ) and Danger! Keep out! (German: Danger! Stay away!) are displayed.

action

Fazbear Entertainment commissioned the video game The Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience . It is supposed to serve to mitigate the damage to the company caused by a crazy indie developer with his own games and to wash Fazbear Entertainment's public image by imitating the events depicted in the indie games and thus ridiculing them . The unnamed player character has the task of testing the virtual experience .

Development history

On August 8, 2018, Scott Cawthon announced in an interview with YouTuber Dawko that a VR FNaF game was in development. On August 19, 2018, he announced in a Steam post that a demo of the game was ready, the title screen of which had been very unsettling. The post was updated on November 11, 2018, announcing some gameplay details and describing the game as 40% complete.

The ESRB's website punctured the game's title and platform, the PlayStation 4, on February 15, 2019. On March 3, 2019, Cawthon announced that Help Wanted would be out in a few months. Nine days later, a teaser about the game appeared on its website, but it was switched off after a short time because it was produced with a 3D model created by a fan, for which Cawthon soon apologized. At the same time, codes hidden in the source code of the page were discovered that led to edited black and white images of the game, which was the first time the gameplay was shown. There was also a picture of an endoskeleton for the film Five Nights at Freddy’s .

On March 25, 2019, a trailer for Help Wanted was uploaded to YouTube, showing a lot of gameplay and confirming that the game would also come out for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Steel Wool Studios also announced that Oculus Quest and Windows Mixed Reality would also be supported. On the same day, Scott Cawthon released another teaser that showed the heads of many of the series' animatronics fused over the Help Wanted logo .

A PlayStationLifeStyle article posted on March 28, 2019 stated the game's release date as April 30, 2019, and revealed that it had over 40 levels. In the weeks that followed, articles appeared in various newspapers revealing new details about the plot and gameplay. It was also Help Wanted at various events, such as Penny Arcade Expo playable demo with three mini-games. On April 16, the game's release date was postponed to May 21, 2019.

Official Steam and PlayStation pages for Help Wanted opened on May 3, 2019. On May 16, 2019, the release date was postponed to May 28, 2019. Instead, began on May 21 different YouTuber who had been selected to get the game earlier in Let's Plays of Help Wanted upload.
