The flag of Trinidad and Tobago was introduced on August 31, 1962.

meaning

In the national flag , red stands for the vitality of the country and its people as well as the warmth and energy of the sun. White symbolizes the sea that surrounds the islands, the purity of national aspirations and the equality of all people. Black stands for the unity and drive of the population as well as the wealth of the country.

history

Blue Ensigns were used by the British colony until 1962. The emblem was changed several times during this period.

With the announcement of the impending independence of Trinidad in June 1962, the "Independence Committee" was set up, a body that was supposed to prepare various aspects of independence and to which, among other things, several artists belonged. The committee was responsible for the design of the future national flag. With the country's independence on August 31, 1962, the flag was used and legally enshrined in 1967 as the national flag with the "National Emblems of Trinidad and Tobago (Regulation) Act: Chapter 19:04".

The personal flag of the British Queen Elizabeth II is no longer in use since Trinidad and Tobago became a republic in 1976.
