The Southampton Airport ( IATA : SOU , ICAO : EGHI is international) commercial airport of Southampton in southern England . With 1.9 million passengers in 2016, it is the 17th largest airport in the UK .

history

As early as 1910, Edwin Moon made the first attempts at his monoplane on the site of today's airport .

In 1936 the first flight of a Supermarine Spitfire took off from the Royal Air Force base, which was temporarily located here .

Location and transport links

The airport is located in Eastleigh, northeast of Southampton, between the M3 and M27 motorways . There is a direct connection to London Waterloo from the connected train station .

Airlines and Destinations

Southampton has connections to several national and European city and holiday destinations, including Paris , Manchester , Amsterdam , Glasgow and Palma . The only German-speaking destination is Düsseldorf with Flybe . There are also connections to Alderney , Guernsey , Jersey and the Isle of Man from here .
