The Laucha airfield is a special airfield in the area of the city of Laucha an der Unstrut in the Burgenland district of Saxony-Anhalt.
history
The airfield served from 1932 as a glider training area and from 1937 as the Reich Sailing School . It was then used to train young air force pilots, towards the end of the war as a field and emergency landing airfield . On April 12, 1945, many airfield facilities were blown up before they were occupied by US troops.
Flight operations
During the week in summer there is always flight operation through the House of Air Sports Youth. At the weekend there is a lot of glider flying , model operations, and occasionally paragliding , hang gliding , and UL flight. In the case of south-westerly or westerly winds, it is possible to fly on a slope ; the slope flight rules must be observed.
The approximately 85 hectare site is approved for all types of air sports. Machines up to 5.7 t can land on the 720 m long grass runway. The grass runway is directly in an east-west direction (09/27).

- The flight days take place at the airfield every year. Every year on Ascension Day and on the weekend after Ascension Day
- Open day with the meeting of the Minimum Fliers: end of August
- Classic car and glider meeting: mid-September
User of the place
The town of Laucha an der Unstrut is the holder of the square.
The users are the air sports club Laucha Dorndorf , the flight model sports club “Unstruttal” and the house of the air sports youth .
Incidents
On June 17, 2011, there was a plane crash at Laucha airfield , in which the pilot of a glider died. It was the worst aviation accident of its kind in Laucha to date .
