Forever Your Girl is the debut album by the American dancer , choreographer and singer Paula Abdul . The album was released on June 13, 1988 and peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200 64 weeks after release . With that, Abdul set a record for the most weeks it took for an album to reach the top.
history
The album went platinum seven times in the USA and Canada , and over 25 million copies of the album were sold worldwide. The album includes the Billboard Hot 100 number-one hits - Straight Up , Forever Your Girl , Cold Hearted and Opposites Attract . With that, Abdul set the record for the most number one hits from a debut album and the record for the second most number one hits from an album, only Michael Jackson had even more number one hits on one record with five. The Way That You Love Me reached number three and Knocked Out number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100.
After a meager start, the album became a huge hit after the release of the third single Straight Up in the summer of 1989, one year after its release in the summer of 1988. Forever Your Girl reached number one in the US on May 20, 1989. After the release of Opposites Attract , it reached number one again on February 10, 1990 and was at the top of the album charts for a total of nine weeks. On the first day of its release, Forever Your Girl sold 191,000 units in one day. In the summer of 1989, sales of the album increased tenfold per day.
Paula Abdul only wrote the title One or the Other on the album . Some of the tracks, including three of the singles, are from Oliver Leiber .
