Fraijanes is a place in Guatemala and the administrative seat of the municipality of the same name in the Department of Guatemala . The place is about 30 kilometers southeast of Guatemala City at 1,585 m above sea level on National Road 2, the old trunk road to El Salvador . The new CA 1 trunk road ( Interamericana ) runs a few kilometers to the west.

The 96 km² municipality extends in the southeastern mountainous region of the department of Guatemala. It has a total of around 40,000 inhabitants, the majority of whom live in rural settlements and villages, including Puerta del Señor, El Cerrito, Los Verdes, Rabanales, Lo de Dieguez, Don Justo, El Chocolate, Canchón, Pavón, San Andrés Buena Vista, El Retiro, Joya Verde, Las Crucitas, Montebello, Los Cipreces and Pueblo Viejo. There is a so-called maximum security prison on the territory of the municipality .

Adjacent municipalities are San José Pinula in the northeast, Santa Catarina Pinula in the north and Villa Canales in the west. Fraijanes borders the Santa Rosa department to the south and east .

Fraijanes belonged to the Municipio Petapa until 1912 and then to Villa Canales until 1924. On June 12, 1924 Fraijanes was elevated to a municipality within the then Amatitlán Department , and a year later it became part of the Guatemala Department.
