Frances Lee McCain

Frances Lee McCain (born July 28, 1944 in York , Pennsylvania ) is an American actress .

Life

McCain was born in York , Pennsylvania and grew up in New York , Illinois , Colorado, and California . After graduating from college, she studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London for three years .

After returning to the United States, she made her actress debut in Woody Allen's play " Do It Again Sam ". She also worked as a stage actress in several roles in the theater in San Francisco . In the early 1970s she appeared on stage at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles alongside Jon Voight and Faye Dunaway in the drama “ Endstation Sehnsucht ”.

In 1974 she and Ronny Cox had her own television series called Apple's Way , which was produced by CBS . In 1978 she played the wife of Charles Grodins role Warren Yeager in Albert Brooks comedy Real Life . In the 1980s, she played some of her most famous roles and was seen in many films, where she played several times as the mother of the respective main character. In 1984 she played the mother of the main character Billy Peltzer in Gremlins - Little Monsters , who bravely defends herself against attacks by the Gremlins, and in Footloose the mother of Kevin Bacon's rebellious teenage character. In 1985 she starred as the mother of Lorraine Baines ( Lea Thompson ) in Back to the Future , the following year she played the mother of Wil Wheaton's main character in Stand by Me (1986) . In the 1990s followed movies like Scream! (1996) and Patch Adams (1998). To this day she stands in front of the camera for television series and mostly smaller film productions.

In 2000 McCain received a Masters degree in Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies . She then returned to the theater in San Francisco.
