Francine Bergé

Francine Bergé (born July 21, 1938 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , France ) is a French theater and film actress .

Life

Francine Bergé was born in 1938 in the Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine . She was interested in the fine arts from a young age. She took ballet lessons and attended drama school. After successfully graduating there, she was accepted into the Comédie-Française ensemble in 1959 . After less than a year, she left the theater, went on tour and appeared in numerous classical stage plays. At the time, her repertoire included pieces by Jean Racine and Molière . She was also seen in performances of works by William Shakespeare , for example in Romeo and Juliet , Hamlet and Othello . For her title role in Racines Bérénice , she received the Syndicat de la critique Théâtre, Musique et Danse award in 1970 in the category of best actress.

In Jean Renoir's historical film White Margerites (1956) she was seen in a small supporting role alongside Ingrid Bergman for the first time on the screen. From the 1960s she got bigger roles in film, for example in Roger Vadim's Schnitzler film adaptation of The Reigen (1964) and Jacques Rivette's Diderot adaptation The Nun (1966). In Benjamin - From the diary of a male virgin (1968), she played alongside the French stars Michèle Morgan , Michel Piccoli and Catherine Deneuve . She starred alongside Alain Delon in Monsieur Klein (1976), Weapon of the Devil (1979) and The Lawyer (1993). Since the 1980s she can be seen in the cinema mainly in supporting roles. She also appeared in several television productions, including six episodes of the television series Clara Sheller - In Love in Paris (2005).

Over the years she has also appeared on stage in pieces by contemporary authors such as Jean Anouilh , Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt and Thomas Bernhard . Together with François Nocher she wrote the play Je vous parle d'un temps .
