Francis Ignatius Malone (born September 1, 1950 in Philadelphia ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Shreveport .

Life

After graduating from high school , Francis Malone earned a first degree in history from the University of Dallas , from which he then earned a Master of Divinity and a degree in education. On May 21, 1977 he received the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Little Rock .

In the first ten years after his ordination he was active in various parishes in pastoral care. After further studies, he obtained a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University of America in 1989 . He was then to 1996, rector of the Cathedral of Little Rock. From 2002 to 2006 he was Vicar General of Little Rock. Prior to his appointment as bishop, he was also a member of the clergy personnel commission, the council of priests and the college of consultors of the Diocese of Little Rock. At times he was also active in public relations for the diocese, as a judge at the church court and as a vice-official . In 1998 Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Pontifical Honorary Prelate . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him in 2010 as Apostolic Protonotary .

On November 19, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Shreveport. The Archbishop of New Orleans , Gregory Aymond , donated to him on January 28 of the following year in the Shreveport Convention Center , the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Little Rock, Anthony Basil Taylor , and his predecessor Michael Gerard Duca , Bishop of Baton Rouge .
