Francisco María Aguilera González

Francisco María Aguilera González (born April 27, 1918 in Guanajuato , † August 5, 2010 in Tequisquiapan , Querètaro ) was a Mexican theologian and auxiliary bishop in Mexico .

Life

Francisco María Aguilera González entered the Guadalupe Seminary in 1931 and studied at the Seminary of Mexico. Archbishop Luis María Martínez sent him to study at the Pontifical Latin American College "Pius" in Rome . On April 11, 1943, he was ordained a priest there . He studied philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University and received a doctorate in theology. In his 2010 autobiography, Balcones del Alma, Memorias , he described the occupation of Rome during World War II and the liberation of Rome by the Allies.

On November 13, 1947, he returned to Mexico and took on pastoral care and teaching at the Conciliar Seminar . From 1954 he was particularly involved in catechesis in Mexico and also in the Latin American Bishops' Conference (CELAM) . In 1973 Aguilera González returned to Rome and was prefect of studies at the Pontificio Colegio Mexicano . He also taught Mexican history at the Pontifical University of the Salesians . In 1977 he returned to Mexico and was in charge of hospital chaplaincy and head of preparatory work for Pope John Paul II's visit to Mexico in January 1979.

John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Macriana in Mauretania on June 5, 1979 and appointed Francisco María Aguilera González auxiliary bishop in Mexico City . The Archbishop of Mexico, Cardinal Ernesto Corripio y Ahumada , ordained him episcopal on August 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Miguel Darío Cardinal Miranda y Gómez , Old Archbishop of Mexico, and José Esaul Robles Jiménez , Bishop of Zamora .

In 1981 he headed the finance committee for the revision of the Universidad Pontificia de México (UPM) . After the earthquake in 1985, which hit the capital Mexico City in particular and killed over 20,000 people, he was entrusted with the construction work.

On June 12, 1996, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

Aguilera Gonzalez was a member of the International Council for Catechesis of the Congregation for the Clergy in Rome . In the Mexican Bishops' Conference (CEM) he was long-time president of evangelization and catechesis as well as education and culture.
