Franco Cardini

Franco Cardini (born August 5, 1940 in Florence ) is an Italian historian and professor of medieval history at the University of Florence .

Life

After studying history at the universities of Florence, Poitiers and Moscow, he worked and taught in Paris , Göttingen , Vienna , Madrid , Boston , Turku , São Paulo , Jerusalem , Damascus and Bari before taking up his chair in Florence in 1989.

In addition to his scientific studies, he has appeared in a variety of publications on the history of the Middle Ages , Jerusalem and the Crusades , in particular the relationship between Christianity and Islam . He also worked in the field of research into medieval everyday culture in Tuscany .

Over the years he has written for newspapers such as Il Giornale , Il Tempo , Storia Illustrata , and Panorama . In addition, he published historical novels set in the context of the Crusades and sat on the RAI Board of Directors from 1994 to 1996 .
