Frank J. Urioste

Frank Joseph Urioste (born April 28, 1938 in Los Angeles ) is an American film editor who was nominated three times for an Oscar .

Life

Urioste began his career in film editing at MGM in 1957 as assistant to Henry Mancini , for whom he edited pieces of music for the series Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky . Here he also met his mentor Ralph E. Winters , whom he himself describes as his great role model. In 1960 he joined the US Army for two years and then went back to MGM until the late 1960s, where he was an assistant editor for films such as The Dirty Dozen and Mutiny on the Bounty .

In 1969 he edited his first film as an independent editor with A widow murders quietly . In the 1970s, he mainly worked on B-movies . In the 1980s, he made his final breakthrough working with director Richard Fleischer . He gained an excellent reputation as an editor for lavish action films through his collaboration with Paul Verhoeven ( RoboCop , Total Recall , Basic Instinct ) and Renny Harlin ( Cliffhanger - Only the Strong Survive , The Pirate Bride , Deep Blue Sea ). Since 1998, Frank J. Urioste has been Senior Vice President in the film development department at Warner Bros.

Frank J. Urioste is a member of the American Cinema Editors and was recognized by the organization in 2007 for his life's work .
