Franz Fehrenbach (born July 1, 1949 in Kenzingen ) is a German manager. He was Chairman of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH until he became Chairman of the company's Supervisory Board in July 2012.

Life and work

Youth, training and studies

Franz Fehrenbach attended the Kenzingen grammar school. He played handball in the school team of the Kenzingen high school and in the TB Kenzingen and was one of the leading players.

In 1968 Fehrenbach passed the Abitur. He then studied industrial engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (today Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) ). In 1975 he passed the examination as a graduate industrial engineer .

In 1975 Fehrenbach joined Robert Bosch GmbH as a trainee . In 1976 he was a technical consultant in the management office, electrical and electronic engine equipment division . In 1978 he was promoted to head of the order and delivery planning department, Lichtwerk in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. Then in 1980 he became commercial director at the Hildesheim plant / Göttingen branch and in 1982 he was the main consultant in the central economic planning and controlling department .

In 1985 he went to the USA as commercial plant manager of the Robert Bosch Corporation, Automotive Group, and became a member of the management there in 1988. In 1989 he returned to Germany and became manager of commercial tasks, starters and generators division . In 1994 he was the spokesman for the management in the Starters and Generators division and in 1996 as head of commercial tasks, in the diesel injection systems division, and in 1997 as the management spokesman for the diesel injection systems division.

From 2001 Fehrenbach was one of the managing directors of Robert Bosch GmbH and took over the chairmanship of the Bosch board of management on July 1, 2003 from Hermann Scholl , who moved to the head of the GmbH supervisory board. Since then, his direct area of ​​responsibility has included the central functions of corporate planning and corporate communications , executive staff, and facilities and buildings.

On July 1, 2012, Fehrenbach was replaced by Volkmar Denner as Chairman of the Management Board and took over the company's Supervisory Board.

Franz Fehrenbach is also a limited partner in one of the shareholders of Robert Bosch Industrietreuhand KG (RBIK). With a total of ten shareholders, it exercises the entrepreneurial shareholder function at Robert Bosch GmbH. The two general partners are Hermann Scholl and Tilman Todenhöfer. Bosch Industrietreuhand KG holds 93 percent of the voting rights and thus determines the strategic direction of the group.

Fehrenbach is a member of the board of the VDA ( Association of the Automotive Industry ), the US Board of the BDI Presidium ( Federal Association of German Industry ), the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business, and the BBUG Board (Baden-Baden Entrepreneur Talks); also member of the supervisory board of BASF , member of the foundation board of the ESMT European School of Management and Technology and member of the Senate of the Max Planck Society .

Franz Fehrenbach is married and has three grown sons.

Honors

Franz Fehrenbach was voted " Eco Manager of the Year 2006" in the corporate sector by the World Wildlife Fund and Capital magazine . In 2009 he was awarded the Prize for Understanding and Tolerance of the Jewish Museum Berlin .
