Franz glasses (born April 19, 1798 in Obergeorgenthal in Bohemia ; † August 29, 1861 in Copenhagen ) was an Austrian opera composer and conductor .

Life

Franz glasses joined the singing choir of the court orchestra in Dresden in his 11th year , entered the Prague music school a few years later , where he trained as a violin virtuoso , and then in 1816 studied composition with Heydenreich in Vienna . From 1817 he was Kapellmeister at the Leopoldstädter Theater , from 1822 at the Josephstädter Theater and from 1827 at the Theater an der Wien . He turned to dramatic composition and wrote several local antics , operas and musical plays . In 1830 he accepted a call as Kapellmeister at the Königsstädter Theater zu Berlin , where his best-known and most important work, the opera Des Adlers Horst (performed for the first time in 1832), was written. In 1839 he went to the Copenhagen National Theater, from 1842 he worked in Copenhagen as court conductor until his death on August 29, 1861.

Glasses left an autobiography and mentions his close acquaintance with Beethoven .
