Franz Josef Hermann Reuter

Franz Josef Hermann Reuter - also Franz Joseph Reuter - (born January 26, 1799 in Damm near Aschaffenburg , † August 23, 1873 in Würzburg ) was a German classical philologist .

Reuter studied at the Karls-Universität Aschaffenburg and taught from 1824 as a grammar school teacher in Augsburg , since 1827 with the title grammar school professor . In 1834 he switched to the Straubing grammar school as rector , where he taught for nine years. After educational trips to Prussia (1843), he went to the University of Würzburg as a full professor of philology and classical antiquity until the winter semester of 1867/1868 (introduced on October 31). In Würzburg , Reuter headed the philological seminar and gave lectures on Latin literary history and Greek and Roman antiquities. In recognition of his services, the Kingdom of Bavaria appointed him first class royal council in 1858 and awarded him the Order of St. Michael . In 1867 Reuter retired.
