Franz Ludwig Hermann , occasionally Franz Ludwig Herrmann , (born January 7, 1723 in Ettal , † July 25, 1791 in Konstanz ) was a German painter and fresco artist . He came from the well-known Kempten family of painters.

The most important teacher was his father Franz Georg Hermann . Franz Ludwig came to Constance at the age of twenty , where he became the prince-bishop's court painter and lived until his death. His granddaughter Marie Ellenrieder was also known as a painter.

His work as a church painter concentrated mainly on the Lake Constance area with a focus on the Swiss side. His most important works (paintings, altarpieces) can be found in the choir of the Stefanskirche in Konstanz, in the Teutonic Chapel of St. Michael in Beuggen ( Rheinfelden ), the Franciscan church in Überlingen , the monastery church of Ittingen , the monastery church of St. Ulrich and Afra in Kreuzlingen , the village church in Hemmenhofen (Gmd. Gaienhofen), the pilgrimage church St. Ulrich in the Black Forest, the parish church Bernhardzell (SG) and the parish church St. Stephan in Therwil .

His first independent commission was to design the Mammern Castle Chapel . In the parity church in Ermatingen there is an altar with two of his pictures, as well as he painted the choir of this church. Around 1755 he was involved in equipping the monastery library in St. Peter's monastery in the Black Forest .
