Franz Ruhm (born July 31, 1896 Brunn am Gebirge , Lower Austria; † March 20, 1966 in Purkersdorf , Lower Austria) was an Austrian cook who became known through cooking programs on ORF and BR and wrote a large number of cookbooks.

biography

Franz Ruhm was the oldest of six children of a carpenter in Brunn am Gebirge. He learned the trade of confectioner . In 1920 he got a job in the Vienna City Hall Cellar and became head chef there after only three years. In 1927 he took over the editing of the monthly magazine of the Association of Austrian Gastronoms . Later he was a cookery teacher and from 1928 he spoke on Austrian radio about Viennese and Austrian cuisine . In 1945 he took over the management of the Association of Austrian Chefs . In 1956, the TV kitchen of the ORF started with Franz Ruhm as the first TV cook, but he was no longer able to continue it in 1961 for health reasons. His successor was Helmuth Karl Misak , and later the cooks Ernst Faseth and Hans Hofer (cook) . He also gave cooking tips on the program Der Fernsehkoch on Bayerischer Rundfunk .

Fame also wrote plays under the pseudonym "Frank Raymon".
