Franz Zimmermann (actor)
Franz Zimmermann (born September 29, 1906 in Cologne , † September 25, 1979 in Düsseldorf ) was a German actor , dramaturge and radio play director .
Life
Born in Cologne, he said he attended a grammar school in Munich-Gladbach , which he graduated from high school around 1925/26. Presumably in Cologne he began university studies in literature, art (history) and theater studies. On April 19, 1928 he applied for the vacant position as a dramaturge at the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf under Louise Dumont and Gustav Lindemann . Only after a positive graphological report did they decide to entrust Zimmermann at the age of 22 with the responsible role of a dramaturge. A service contract dated June 15, 1931 also shows him as a novice actor in charge . As a dramaturge, Zimmermann was, among other things, the responsible editor for the program magazine of the Schauspielhaus Masken in the seasons 1928/29 to 1931/32 . Most recently, he also worked there as deputy director. After the death of Louise Dumont in 1932 and with the transformation of the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf in connection with the Schauspiel Köln to the Deutsches Theater am Rhein at the beginning of the 1932/33 season, Franz Zimmermann left the company.
Franz Zimmermann's first film role was that of a student pilot in the sound film Rivals of the Air - A Glider Pilot Film (1934). In the following he played in about 15 other films, including a. in Die Lustigen Weiber (1936), Die Erbschleicher (1937), Polterabend (1940) and in the Heinz Rühmann film Quax, the break pilot . After the Second World War, Franz Zimmermann resulted in two films dialogue director : Dreamy Days (1951) and The Second Life (1954). He was only seen once as an actor: he played the grandfather in Niklaus Schilling's 1978 author's film Rheingold . Zimmermann was a long-time employee of the WDR in Cologne .
His career as a radio director began after the Second World War, initially in Berlin , where he mainly worked for the RIAS . In the early 1950s he came to the NWDR in Cologne, the forerunner of the WDR. One of his best-known radio plays is the eight-part series As far as feet carry , which he staged in 1956 and in which, among others, Wolfgang Wahl , Kurt Lieck and Walter Richter could be heard as speakers. Occasionally in the early years he was also used as a speaker.
