Franz von Pfeuffer

Franz von Pfeuffer (born August 27, 1808 in Karlsruhe , † August 26, 1883 ibid) was a Baden lawyer and secret legation councilor .

Life

Franz von Pfeuffer was a great-grandson of the Electoral Palatinate fiefdom, Privy Councilor and general war auditor Gabriel Ritter von Pfeuffer . His father was Edmund Franz von Pfeuffer (1769-1852), registrar in the War Ministry. His mother Marie Luise von Pfeuffer († 1813) came from the Alsatian patrician family von Geiger and was the daughter of the royal French privy councilor von Geiger zu Weißenburg. Franz von Pfeuffer had three sisters. He attended the Lyceum in Karlsruhe until 1828 and then studied at the University of Munich and Heidelberg University . In 1832 he passed the state examination in law.

He was initially a temporary worker in the administrative service of the Karlsruhe City Office and then took up a position at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Grand Ducal House . In 1836 he was temporarily employed at the embassy in Bern and in the same year was permanently employed as a legation counselor in the ministry. From 1838 to 1840 he was a member of the embassy in Stuttgart . In 1843 he became a postal councilor in the management of the post office and railways. On August 26, 1844, he married Hermine Rosa Gulat von Wellenburg (1823–1890), a granddaughter of Daniel Gulat von Wellenburg, who was ennobled in 1800 . From 1850 he was again active as a legation councilor in the ministry. In 1860 he was appointed secret legation councilor. From 1867 to 1871 he was also the extraordinary envoy and authorized minister (AoGubM) at the grand ducal Hessian court in Darmstadt . The embassy there was closed after him. In 1868, von Pfeuffer was appointed Privy Councilor 2nd class. He retired in 1872.

Franz von Pfeuffer was friends with Rudolf Kusel , among others . In his spare time he painted watercolors with landscape motifs. Pictures of him are, for example, in the State Art Gallery in Karlsruhe .

Awards

Franz von Pfeuffer received several foreign medals. He also received the Commander's Cross 1st Class of the Order of the Zähringer Löwen .
