history
Frauenbreitungen was first mentioned in a document on October 6, 1073. Frauenbreitungen was founded as Königsbreitungen . An Augustinian convent was founded as early as 1150 and existed until 1528. That was the reason for the renaming of the place to the name it still bears today. Frauenbreitungen was later the main town of the Frauenbreitungen office and belonged to the county of Henneberg and from 1680 to the duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . In 1776 the place received market rights.
The ordinance of the state government and the higher regional court of August 22, 1827 introduced the separation of administration and justice in the local authorities in the Meininger Unterland . The five subordinate offices of Wasungen, Sand, Frauenbreitungen, Altenstein and Salzungen were dissolved. A district office with the seat in Frauenbreitungen was established for administration, police, road construction, military affairs and municipal supervision. Its central location spoke in favor of relocating the administrative center to this small town. As part of the reorganization of the duchy in 1829, the district office was dissolved and divided into the two administrative offices of Wasungen and Salzungen.
Frauenbreitungen was part of the community of Alten- und Frauenbreitungen .
