Altenbreitungen is a district of the municipality Breitungen / Werra in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia .

location

Altenbreitungen is on the right high bank of the Werra on federal road 19 . To the west is the Werraaue. The historical location of Altenbreitungen forms the development in the Eisenacher Straße , Wirtsgasse and Meininger Straße area . The Werra bridge connects the district with Frauenbreitungen, Nürnberger Straße leads east to Burgbreitungen, 800 m away, and to Herrenbreitungen, 1.5 km away.

history

Altenbreitungen was first mentioned on September 13, 1137. Altenbreitungen is the oldest part of Breitungen, which is proven by finds. According to local tradition, the place was founded by the Alemanni . In the community of Alten- and Frauenbreitungen , which later became part of the Frauenbreitungen office in the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen , the districts of Altenbreitungen and Frauenbreitungen had been economically intertwined since the Middle Ages.

1950 the merger with Herrenbreitungen to the place Breitungen / Werra took place.
