Women's Football Leagues (Namibia)

The women's football leagues in Namibia are the highest women's football leagues in Namibia . These were held regionally as U20 leagues and as pure amateur leagues until 2011. They are organized by the Namibia Football Association . Jacqueline Shipanga is responsible for organizing women's football in Namibia.

Women's Super League

With the 2011/2012 season, the Namibia Football Association created a uniform, national women's league for the first time. Six teams compete under the name “ Women's Super League ” (WSL). These are mainly participants in the "Khomas Women's Football League", which was held until 2009, i. H. Okahandja Beauties , Challengers FC , 21 BDE United , JS Academy , UNAM Bokkies and Poly Babes .

The regional championships in the other regions will continue to be held. In the future, teams from these regions should be able to qualify for the new super league.

2020 season

For the first time, twelve teams will take part in the league in the 2020 season.

Season 2018/19

After years without a women's soccer league, it was re-established at the end of 2018. The main sponsor was the mining company Skorpion Zinc , which will provide 750,000 Namibian dollars per season.

2015/2016 season

The season was won by Tura Magic Ladies with a flawless vest of 20 wins in 20 games and 237 to 1 goals. The Khomas Nampol Ladies came in second, while the Poly Babes came in third .

Former competitions

In November 2010 there were seven active leagues in the 13 regions , including Caprivi , Omusati , Kavango , ǁKaras , Kunene and Khomas .

NFA Women Championships

The NFA Women Championships is the national championship tournament in women's football held between 2005 and 2009. It will be held centrally on a weekend. Three teams from the regional Khomas League and one team each from the five other regional leagues are eligible to participate. In 2007 the four regional leagues (Khomas, ǁKaras, Kavango and Kunene) each played the champions and runners-up.

From 1999 to 2004 the national championship in women's football was known as the “Namibia Women's Football League”, and in 2005 the Khomas Regional League was held under this name.

2009 season

The eight participating teams were divided into two groups of four teams each. The first two of the group played the final for the Namibian championship, the two second placed the final for 3rd place. The tournament took place on September 19th and 20th, 2009 in Windhoek .

Regional championships

Khomas

The Khomas Women's Football League (KWFL) is the regional league of women's football in the Khomas region . It has been carried out since 1999 and is considered the most professional of the regional leagues, which is why it appeared in 2005 under the name "Namibia Women's Football League". The Okahandja Beauties are record champions of the Khomas League.

Three teams are football teams from the three large tertiary educational institutions in Windhoek. The Polytechnic Babes are a team from the Namibia University of Science and Technology , the UNAM Bokkies play for the University of Namibia and the WCE team for the Windhoek College of Education .

In 2010 the league was not played due to organizational and financial problems.

2009 season

The season was characterized by an outstanding performance by the Okahandja Beauties , who averaged more than 11 goals per game and conceded only two goals in total. The top scorer was Kleintjie Fredericks with 49 goals followed by Stella Williams with 41 goals (both Okahandja Beauties). The Okahandja Beauties took part as champions in the "International Women's Club Tournament" in South Africa .

Further regional league champions

Youth football

Since 2008, under the name “Galz & Goalz”, women’s football has been promoted among children and junior women with the support of UNICEF .

Women's Super League U-20

The Women's Super League U-20 has been held for school teams for the first time since March 27, 2014 . Seven teams from Windhoek, Rehoboth and Okahandja take part.

Girls League Soccer

In 2011, SK Windhoek founded the independent “Girls League Soccer” for girls between 14 and 18 years of age.

  • St. George's Diocesan School
  • St. Paul's College
