Fred Konrad (born October 21, 1961 in Trier ) is a German doctor and politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). He is a former member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate

Konrad studied medicine in Homburg and Bonn . He was initially a doctor in the field of anesthesia in Bad Honnef and then went on to train as a pediatrician at the Homburg University Clinic. In 1996 he wrote a dissertation on siblings of victims of sudden infant death syndrome . In the same year he became a doctor with the medical service of the health insurance . In 1998 he became a pediatrician in the social pediatric center of the Rehabilitation West Palatinate in Landstuhl . His focus was developmental and behavioral disorders in children and interdisciplinary care of children and adults with disabilities. He has been a resident pediatrician in Kusel since 2004 . In addition to the practice, Konrad provides rehabilitation medical care for adults with multiple disabilities in Zweibrücken and Kusel.

Konrad has been a member of the Greens since 1987. In 1993 Konrad became a member of the Zweibrücken district association , where he was spokesman for the district association from 1997 to 2011, with interruptions. In 1998 he ran there for the office of Lord Mayor. From 2000 to 2001 he was state board spokesman for the Greens in Rhineland-Palatinate . In the 2006 state elections , he ran for the direct mandate in constituency 46 ( Zweibrücken constituency ). He could not achieve it and did not make it through the list because the Greens failed at the 5% hurdle. In 2006 Konrad became a member of the state party council. He is a member of the regional social work group. In the 2009 Bundestag election , he took fourth place in constituency 211 Südwestpfalz and on the state list of Rhineland-Palatinate. Again, he did not manage to win a mandate, but would have been the first to replace him had a member of the Greens in Rhineland-Palatinate resigned.

In the state elections in 2011 , Fred Konrad finally succeeded in entering the state parliament . He was number 14 on the state list, while the Greens won eighteen seats. He renounced the Bundestag mandate, which he would have been entitled to after Ulrike Höfken was appointed State Minister, due to his entry into the Landtag. In the parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Konrad was responsible for social issues , inclusion , care, life in old age, demography and church politics. He was chairman of the committee for integration, family, children and youth and a member of the social policy committee and a deputy member of the petitions committee. For the parliamentary group he was a member of the board of trustees of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and the Evangelical Academy of the Palatinate .

In addition to the state parliament mandate, Konrad continued his practice for pediatric and adolescent medicine to a small extent and provides rehabilitation medicine to several dormitories and day care centers for adults with multiple disabilities. He is involved in the Friends of Himmerod Abbey and in the Rwanda Committee in Zweibrücken. The focus of the work of the Rwanda Committee in 2014 is the APAX Center for Disabled Children in Muramba . He is a member of the Madrigal Choir Klaus Fischbach . Fred Conrad was one of three candidates for the mayoral elections in Trier , 2014.

On May 18, 2016, Konrad left the state parliament.
