Fred Metzler

Fred Metzler (born September 21, 1929 in Koblenz ; † January 23, 2010 ) was a German radio and television presenter and actor , who was known to a large number of listeners for decades, especially in southern Germany, but through acting appearances throughout Germany Language area.

Life

Fred Metzler began an artistic career as an actor , through which he stood on stage with greats from the field, such as Gustaf Gründgens or Werner Krauss . However , it was precisely the timbre of his voice that soon dissuaded him; he switched to radio in Stuttgart .

As early as 1956, newspaper reports appeared in the region, according to which he was allowed to speak live as the first presenter of the Südfunk Stuttgart without his texts having to be removed before the broadcast . In addition to his distinctive sonorous voice, the listeners quickly got used to his rejection: "With best regards from house to house". As a result, he also worked on the ARD for Südwestfunk (SWF) in Baden-Baden and Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt am Main .

In 1965 the series Das Jazz-Studio ran on television and moderated by Fred Metzler.

In 1970, Metzler appeared as himself in two editions of the ZDF - Drehscheibe (1970). In the 70-minute film Flick-Flack (1971) produced by Hessischer Rundfunk for ARD, he played alongside actors such as Ilona Grübel , Gisela Trowe , Günter Strack , Peter Fitz and Hanns Dieter Hüsch . In the 75-minute ZDF drama Autos (1972) he embodied a radio announcer and played alongside Heinz Schimmelpfennig , among others .

Until his retirement in 2004, Metzler was a regular presenter on SWR4 Baden-Württemberg as a presenter of the programs You wish - we play , four past four , late harvest and Sunday concerts .
