Fred Norris

Fred Norris (actually Frederick Norris; born September 4, 1921 in Tyldesley , Greater Manchester ; † December 13, 2006 ibid) was a British long-distance runner .

At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , he was eighth over 10,000 m .

In 1956 he was second in 2:21:49 h in the Polytechnic Marathon and qualified for the marathon of the Olympic Games in Melbourne , in which he did not reach the goal.

In 1958 he was tenth in the Polytechnic Marathon and , starting for England , fifth over six miles at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff . At the European Athletics Championships in Stockholm he won bronze in the marathon in 2:21:15 h.

In 1959 he won the Cross of Nations . In 1960 he set his personal best in a marathon in Liverpool with 2:19:08 h, but was unable to take part in the Olympic Games in Rome due to an injury .

In 1961 he was third in the Boston Marathon , and in 1962 he won the Canadian Marathon Championship and the US Championship in the 20 km road race .
